Hi
We have a British Gas engineer coming round tomorrow to carry out some work on the above boiler. We took the plan out on the 26th of November 2007 but never did get a phone call to arrange the safety check/service so due to a very noisey fan we called them out.He said that they don't normally carry out any work until the check is done but due to the fact that we had waited so long he would not charge us for the repair. He is going to fit a new fan and he also said he would order some new gaskets. My problem is that he made the comment that the powermax boilers are no longer made and it could be a problem getting parts is this true or is he lining us up for a new boiler. Also can you refuse the powerflush if they say it needs it as we have no trouble with the hot water.Any advice would be great.

utter bullshit.

you are on contract now no matter what they find as they are outside their 28 day period for doing a first visit. the only exceptions will be anything that is not covered by the contract for any customer.

if he finds nothing that would contravene the contract you are entitled to a full repair for any fault under the terms and conditions. be wary of the office monkeys, they are lying morons of the highest order and make stuff up for fun. they should all be shot and the service automated.

parts are readily available. im not aware of anything that is not available although some parts may be special order meaning a longer delivery time.

you dont have to get a powerflush but if the system is genuinely in need of one they wont fix certain faults unless you get it done. it doesnt need to be done by BG.

Mate tried to order a complete tank assembly which is no longer available apparantly.

Well british Gas man has been and all i can say is awesome new fan,new burner, new pump, new gaskets & sensors plus serviced boiler now runs like a dream.Have to say that original guy phoned in sick today so had a different chap to do it but he has been working for british gas for 40 years so he really knew his stuff. For once i can say i am very please with the service from British Gas. :D

Mike

He was clearly bullshi**in you about parts not being available. Parts are easily obtainable.

You were lucky that the 1st engineer chickened out of servicing your boiler, there is a real issue with Engineers being very reluctant in servicing the IMI Range Powermax boilers.

Might be something to do with a past case of severe negligence on BGs part !!!!

99% of engineers don't even replace the gaskets which they should do, finding someone competent to do the job properly is very difficult, I'm glad you had a decent engineer though.

The main problems with the Powermax 135/155 is that they scale up [obviously], the electrodes, and the blend valves scale up.

yeh i just realised this is the 155 and not the 155x we are on about here
