I have a powermax 155 sealed system which is about 7 years old. As of 1 week ago it makes a noise like a washing machine with water slooshing around inside it when it is running. It will try to light a few times then goes to "lock out". No matter how many times I try to get it to run it will always go to "lock out". There is no air in the radiators but a plumber who came out to look at it the other day said the flue could be leaking water into the boiler as he emptied some water out of it. It was running when he left but then it would not re-light. When running it sounded like a washing machine. When it used to work there was never any sound of water coming from inside the boiler. If the flue is leaking then the engineer said the flue could need re-building, but it has been working fine for the past 7 years so surely it could be just a seal between the flue and the boiler. In any case I can't understand why a flue would contain so much water. I have looked outside of the house and the flue is intact with the "hat" still on top of the chimney.

what happened to your other boiler?

you did say "I have a Powermax 355 boiler with built in timer" which was taken from your previous post here

you have condesate build up in ur sump, if u take off the covers, and look underneath, there is a metal bracket (u may need to remove the pump to get to it). pack the undreneath out with towels, and undo the drain nut, and then the bracket. the chances are there is alot of water in there, so be prepared...........

Has anyone experienced water ( condensation) buildup in the sump that then affected the combustion and flue operation?

yes, you need to take the sump off. pack the surrounding area with as many old towels as you can get in, and undo the nut at the front. you may need to prize the sump off, but watch out for the water..........

Jason,

What causes this water build-up and do you stop it happening ?
