have had the powermax 155x for 7 years now and its given us no grief, up to now. with the cold weather on its way i thought i'd check that the central heating is working. turned the thermostat up and waited to hear the pump start and the boiler fire up. nothing happened. turned on a hot water tap and the boiler started up and fired. i've checked the thermostat and all seems ok there. anyone any ideas, pump maybe ???

Could well be the pump.
Put the heating on then give the pump a sharp tap with a hammer.
Thats a sharp tap, not a wallop or a tickle!
Or with heating on remove screw from end of pump insert screwdriver and try and spin spindle.
Proberbly siezed up over summer

have you had the boiler serviced at all? These are specialist units I suggest you call Baxi Heat team to get it serviced.

BG killed a powermax owner by being negligent/incompetent so baxi are best imo.

seized pump. Thanks for reminder, better get leaflets out to the Powermax owners. nice easy job :D

great, thanks. removed the large screw cap and took a screwdriver to the pump, it was seized, but its not any more !!!!

Little tip Rossi..Run your heating for a couple of minutes once a week in the summer to stop pump from sticking.

do you actually know the full story behind that incident apart from what you read in the sun

Following a few 'incidents', I think, now, some BG engineers are as well trained on Powermax as Heateams engs.

When did you last do Powermax training/refresher?

rossi46 - excellent name

Last did powermax training myself about 2years ago. See a couple a week normally. Still cant believe guys on this patch leave themselves open to problems with these. P'max 155x 9years old came on contract last year, every baffle had dropped and still had the glassfibre gaskets fitted. Numerous burner screws were loose too

some people never learn do they? PP do you ever get sick of mopping up after your clearly incompetent and dangerous workmates? I did and left-best thing I ever done.

Seriously why don't you leave? There is work out there that pays alot better for considerably less aggro. . . . .

The work isnt so plentiful round here, very rural licolnshire, unless you have LPG/OFTEC and there are few other employers except the ones that do council work.

Plus im still learning the trade tbh, only been qualified 2 1/2 years.

Well I dont, do you?

It seemed at the time that no one was saying anything about it because it was expected to be going to involve a prosecution. BG seemed to be muttering that it was a contractor rather than direct staff.

I have never seen a full and correct account of the technical details of what happened, who was involved and what the prosecution outcome was!
