Hello

I hope I am posting this in the right place (apologies if not) I am a building design consultant and currently looking at ways to make project documentation easier for construction reference.

Can the builders registered on this forum let me know what they prefer:

1 - Construction drawings on smaller sheets like A2 with sections and details but with the full construction specification written out with a larger font in a separate a4 document.

Or

2 - Larger A1 sheets with the sections and details on and all the construction spec notes written in a smaller font in the margin on on the side/bottom of the drawing

Or other suggestions..

Your input would be much appreciated.

Thanks , RC

From someone that looks at a lot of plans A1 drawings get my vote every time and I think are far more professional.
Reams of generic specifications/details in A4 docs are a pain particularly if they are not job specific.

The spec needs to be on the same sheet to the drawings or detail it relates to.

Anything less is amateurish

Generally A1's with notes on the details all on the same sheets. Though I've been requested to produce all sorts of variations in the past including: everything on A3's (for major developers), just NBS ref's on the detail sheets, A0's (idiots). There's nothing wrong with A3's, they are popular with domestics they're far more readily copied by the client and the builder.

A1 with specific notes and details all on the same sheet are preferable.
Time and again you see builders thumbing through reams of A sheets stapled together, trying to find the relevant parts, and invariably some sheets come away.
What they find particularly irritating is the cut-and-paste rubbish where you get masses of notes and they have to work out what is relevant to their specific job. Some designers do that to impress the client and make their work look worth the money.
