Prep-ing walls after wallpaper stripping disaster

We're having one wall in the dining room replastered (hacked back to stonework then full replastering) because of damp salts etc. This obviously means we can't paper for some time so in my wisdom I decided to strip paper from other 3 walls so could paint entire room when plaster was dry.

BUT the wallpaper has taken off large areas of the underneath paint so I now have areas of bare plaster and areas of painted wall. What's the solution so I end up with a reasonably good surface for painting?

Elbow grease and sanding? Or some other solution?

Help gratefully received - husband is ranting that I should have left well alone!

Your husband is right. Either replaster the lot or use lining paper.

Or scrape the rest of the paint off.
