Hi,
I have just taken up some old tiles, but am unsure of what I should do next to prepare the floor for laying a new set of tiles (ceramic).
I think the existing floor is a 5 c.m. screed, but the old adhesive for the old tiles is like concrete (literally) and is difficult to get up.
I've attached a few pictures of the old floor and the current state, and one near the radiator where the screed has come away.
Do I have to remove the old adhesive (seems pretty difficult and time consuming to remove), or can I do something else instead?
Thanks for any advice!
Cheers,
Aaron

Shop at a local professional tile supplies for the following:

You could take a Mfr's advice for a matching primer and SLC.
Prime and pour the SLC to min depth for a smooth plane - and tile when the SLC instructions say so: eg after 24 hrs.

Your bagged, cementitious, powder adhesive Mfr will specify the primer to go on the SLC prior to spreading adhesive.

You should take off the door it will be in the way and will have to be shaved for the raised floor.
And pull the appliances to remove any remaining tile - be aware of not trapping appliances behind a newly raised tile floor.
If you have major issues over raising the floor the depth of the SLC then come back here.

Thanks for the response Vinn!
I will move the washer machine out of the way and take the room door off too as you suggest.
What area should I use the SLC on? I mean, what do I do about the legs for the kitchen base units? Won't they end up covered in the SLC?
Cheers,
Aaron

You can go as far as the legs, just like the previous tile reached. Usually, the clip-on plinth covers the legs & sits on the tile - the plinth might have to be cut to sit on the raised tile floor, just one of the variables when you raise the FFL.
