Hi,
I am preparing to tile 500sq/ft. with porcelain tile over terrazzo floor. The floor is smooth and without cracks or holes. I did a water absorbtion test and after 6 hours, a slight discoloration difference could be observed, so the floor must be somewhat porous, but I am not sure how to determine if there is any wax or sealer on the surface.
Question#1
Should I be stripping the terrazzo to assure a proper bonding surface and if so, what are my environmentally safe product options? There will be small children living in that space, hence it's the origin of my concern.
Question#2
When I lay an (18x18) tile on the terrazzo, I notice a small play from corner to corner in a few places along the floor, which indicates that the surface is not perfectly flat. Should I be concerned about that or is the thin-set going to correct it as I lay the tile and adjust the flatness with a leveler?
Thank you in advance,
Dmitry
