This combi is losing a bar of pressure every couple of hours but no sign of any leaky rads/pipes. Water does leak from a pipe leading down from the expansion tank to the Giannini hydraulic valve, a pint at a time, very suddenly once a week or so when its in regular use. This seems to have stopped since we've been using the CH less. This pipe was twisted by a plumber trying to tighten a leaking joint, but the pressure drop started months after this. The boiler works fine as long as its regularly pressured up.

Could the hydraulic valve be damaged as a result of the twisted pipe? Would this account for the pressure drop? I've got a CORGI plumber coming in to look at it this week, but would welcome any advice. I'm hoping its not going to be new boiler time.

The leak must be fixed because continual repressurising causes sludge to form.

This model is getting pretty old now and is due for replacement soon/now.

However they are solidly built boilers and can be renovated and kept working but the question becomes for how long is this cost effective.

It may be leaking from a part INSIDE the combustion chamber. Get the CORGI to check it and bring a new AAV with him. Standard part whilch all competent engineers would bring but....
