Treated us to a Nilfisk pulsating pressure washer and found it splats all the sand and grit up between block paving stones all over EVERYTHING within 10 feet or so..watch your neighbours car! The other bad news is that I seem to have damaged my right hand holding in the start lever in with my thumb whilst the thing vibrates..my hand was half numb for about 20 mins after using it for about half an hour and I have been left with a sensitised thumb..anything even a light brush on the inside finger pad or top joint now sets of electric like pains as if i put my thumb in a light socket. It is horrible and most disabling. I have to see a hand trauma doctor soon.

Any pressure washer worth having will splatter everything in range with whatever is on the ground before you start. I'd be a bit wary of using one on block paving as I know what they can do - I've cut holes in 'weak' rendering before now

As for the hand problem, sounds like one of the ailments common in construction - and especially amongst people who use 'jack hammers'. You should seek medical attention for it promptly.
Personally, I can't see the point of pulsing - a decent pressure washer will work without it, and it sounds like it'll just cause operator discomfort.

when i was a lot younger i spent years working with jackhammers and concrete pokers, i used to get really bad numbness in my fingers and hands, the doctor told me to stop smoking, which i initialy didnt do, after a few years i eventualy did stop smoking and the problem went away, 20 years ago now and its never come back.

Well I can truthfully say I have never smoked.
I have an appointment for a neurologist in October.
I dont think 45 mins of pressure washing (in all of my 54 years) ought to cause this?
The thumb has become supersensitive to stimuli hot, cold, stroking, pressure etc . I dont have any stiffness which sort of discounts it being arthritis? Any stimulus now causes pins and needles or if it hits a certain spot inside the mid thumb I literally ear a snap of electricity somewhere and it zaps me like an electric shock for a few seconds. It leaves me with vague ache and weakness in the hand.

for people doing DIY it can be simple to fix a cable tie that slides into position to hold the button on a pressure washer ON without any use of the hand (I'd not recommend this for power tools like a jack hammer)

Depending on the washer (size/power) I'd suggest it's not necessarily a good idea on a pressure washer either. I have an old washer without a valve on the lance - take good hold and switch on ! If you don't have a good hold (easier said than done, it takes two hands to hold it securely), you'd better be able to run bloomin fast

For reference, it's an old Nixon unit that's (just, I think) older than I am, with a 3hp motor and a 3 cylinder CAT pump. It'll cut concrete if the builder was at all stingy with the cement.

If you've only had the washer a short time see if they will take it back as unsuitable. You don't need the pulse function and any decent washer will hardly have any vibration when running correctly.
