Given that this site doesn't allow the asking of ball park figures etc. does anyone know of a site that does, or gives a sample bill for different trades.
I bought sarah beenies book price the job but that seems well out.
It seems like a common question and when ever i need a quote doing i always have a read up on the net and the associated bodies web sites to get some idea and fill in with a bit of the jargon but sometimes get shocked by some quotes i get. and programmes like rogue traders etc do nothing for the confidence of people in the quotes that they get.
Even if a quote seems reasonable there will always be a niggle in the back of my head asking "is it".
I know you should get a few quotes and choose the best one, but if you had an idea of a price before hand you could choose to go with the first one and save everybodies time.

You could get yourself a Spons Price book but a) you'd need to buy one every year and b) they're not cheap, great for rough prices though.

might not be (how do you KNOW its "well out" it may be more than what you think it should be, but some one else may thinkits cheap or just right

point is there is only one way, get several quotes / recomendations

a book might say £3 for x, x being what you are looking for.

how old is that book when you got it,
how do you know (in ms beenies case) she hasnt quoted a bit too much to be on the safe side

try a website.

when was that website last updated?

how much is labour in your particular area, how about parking for the trades person, congestion charge too
