I am being asked to quote for a job by a client with a surveyor. He has drawn up a spec. Among some of the things hes asked for pricing for are the replacement of any damged boards and joists. (havent seen any to speak of). Then hes asked to allow for the plaster repairs of walls. As this is a basement flat ths could be tanking, could just be skimming over existing. The question im asking is would you price for plastering as a sqm price, would you allow a linear metre price for the joists. Got very close on last project, dont want to miss out on this one! Cheers

You can quote a general item rate, m2 or LM rate as appropriate, but may not want to quantify it as the actual measure is unknown

Really, the specifier should have put these unknowns as a PS (provisional sum) and then the PS is added to the figure you quote, and this means that all the quotes are based on the same things. Then at the end of the job, the PS is deducted, and the actual costs added

I would quote firmly for known work, but estimate or do your own PS for the unknowns, and then your quote wont be artificially high
