Prima LP600 dishwasher

Hi, can anybody help with a problem on above dishwasher? Although it is badged as 'Prima' i understand it to be a Whirlpool. It stays on continuously and when the end of cycle buzzer sounds, it is still in middle of cycle! Manual says to hold start button for at least 5 seconds until start light flashes but it does not flash. Any advice appreciated.
