Ok so I am thick but am I right in saying that you use the primer all over the wall and then the tanking on top of that on those parts of the wall that will get wet.

£45 from Screwfix for 3Kg tanking is all I can find. Just doing top and side of the bath so seems expensive for my needs but if it has to be done then thats it.

You only ever use primer if the manufacturer of whatever you using recommends it & that will depend on the tile base & what ever you putting over it. Is the Screwfix stuff your using Dunlop liquid tanking membrane? What are the walls made of in your “wet area”.

Wall looks to be normal plasterboard with a plaster skim except where the old tile adhesive has pulled it off.
Using Mapei fast set adhesive which says plaster backgrounds must be primed with Mapei Plaster Primer. I have Mapei Primer G for use on porous, non porous and gypsum based substrates and will be getting a Dunlop waterproofing shower kit from Screwfix (bottom right on page 86 of current catalogue)
