The old privet hedge in my front garden is a right pain.its 5' high by 5' wide ,if I cut it back to next to nothing in the autumn ,would such a old hedge survive this and could I exspect any new growth in the new year.
That is a wide hedge
Privet is much maligned, but still makes a good hedge in my opinion.
I saw one today, that I used to trim for my grandmother when I was a lad, 50 years ago, and it is still in good condition.
I have found privet withstands severe cutting back, but I would not leave it too late, try and avoid further damage by frost when it is in its weakened state.
