At no time during the sales interview, planning, installation, testing, commissioning or handover of the system, did any employee of Smart Energy inform me that my existing combi boiler - a Worcester 28SI11 - was unsuitable for this system. In fact the sales person said that this boiler was compatible with their system. When I read the technical literature (which was not given to me until after I had made the final payment) I discovered that the boiler will not accept water that is pre-heated above 24 degrees C so all water in the solar tank above 24degrees C has to be cooled down to 24degrees by the Smart Energy system to prevent damage to the boiler. Water at 46 degrees C (no more, no less ) bypasses the boiler directly to the taps. All that hot water between 24 and 46 degrees C is unusable and all that heat wasted. Do I have any other options than replacing the boiler with a compatible one (a very expensive option) or demanding the removal of the Smart Energy system and a full refund - £8,893.
