I had Rehau Heritage uPVC double-glazed sash windows fitted in 2006. One of the windows will not remain in the raised position. The window frame has a thin nylon cord running down each side and fastening to the bottom of the window. On one side, the cord is very tight and the tension is pulling the window to the raised position. On the other side, the cord is dangling loose. I assume that this cord should go to a spring so that it is under tension. However, the cord just seems to disappear at the top of the frame and there is no obvious way to get at the spring. Every contractor I have contacted in my area (Gloucestershire) is either unfamiliar with the design and contruction of the window or does not want to try and fix the problem. Does anyone have any advice as to how the window is constructed or how to get at the spring?
