Problems firing up boiler to heat water on demand

I moved house last year and I think there might be a problem with the heating system.

We have a Potterton Suprima 60 boiler with Danfoss Cp 15 controller.

Last Sunday I ran out of hot water and set the controller from 'allday' to 'on' and the hot water to on, but even though the tap was running only lukewarm I couldn't seem to get the boiler to kick in and heat it up, even if I turned the heating to 'on' as well.

It eventually warmed up, but alas no bath!

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
