Hello,

Totally new here and although not new to DIY, I am new to plumbing wiring.
I'm not silly enough to try to do anything without knowing what I'm doing, so I just wanted to check with some experts first.

I have just bought a new 7 day programmer (Drayton LP722) to replace my ancient dial programmer. On taking a look, the wiring diagram of the new plate looks just like the old one. Am I safe to wire them like for like?

A photo of them is here:

Thanks in advance,
Stu (Elzibar)

I'd have another look if I were you ;)
although the new programmer will replace the old one,the wiring of the terminals is not the same

No. Look again. The wiring diagrams are not the same. You need to swap 2 wires around

I thought that the differences were in the programmer rather than the supply.

So am I right in thinking that 1 & 2 swap with 3 & 4?
I don't want to take risks so want to be in no doubt.

Thanks for replies.

Told you I was new to this!

No. Look again. I say this with the upmost respect, call an electrician

Ha. No respect necessary. I know I'm a simpleton where this stuff is concerned. This was just a penny pinching measure.
I was hoping someone might be able to say

old 1 goes to new X
old 2 goes to new X etc...

If it's harder than that, I won't take any risks and will call in a pro.
There's a reason you guys charge what you do, I'm just struggling to afford anything at the moment!

Thanks again.

One last attempt. Sorry, just interested more than anything now…

1 is now 4
3 stays as 3
4 is now 2
2 is now 1?

Marks out of 10?

The wiring isn't the same, for example on your old one Heating ON is (1) and on the new one it's (4). Which connections are actually used on your existing system?

On the new programmer 1 is not used
2 now picks up the old terminal 4 connection CH off
3 remain the same HW on
4 picks up the old 1 connection CH on

Actually I think he got it right on his last attempt

Is there anything connected to 2 at present? It looks like the old programmer doesn't have HW OFF

Looking at the photo, there are wires to terminals N, L, 1 and 3.

Is that correct?

If so, it's an easy job to change to the new programmer.

Old -- New
N --------- N
L ---------- L
1 ---------- 4
3 ---------- 3

So you only have to swap one wire over - 1 to 4.

That's right, nothing currently going into 2 or 4.
Is everyone agreed then? Just move 1 across to 4?
