I am hopefully going to be installing two Universal Beams 178x102x19 (recommended by a SE report) to open up a cavity wall. I have installed new doorway openings in my home in single and cavity walls, using strong boys but I would like to approach this using wooden needles. I am wondering if anyone can give me their thoughts on this approach.

I have read through the tips on this thread.

In the image I show the location of where i would like to install the UB. As you can see the 1st floor joists run into the inside wall. The top of string of the stairs is at the right hand side.

Would 4 props 2 either side with needles at location 2 and 4 be enough support?

I have some spare lengths of C24 6 x 2 (145x45mm). Is this suitable for the needles?

Could I use the same C24 6 x 2 wood as a support brace across the joists (supported by three props).

Many thanks for any advice.

Thanks for the reply. I had not heard of this technique. I have looked at your literature and it would be useful if there were some videos showing the beaming process for opening a wall up.

I have purchased the IBeams and props for the job so I will be going ahead with this method.

Wouldn't use needles there. Just prop across the joists internally and maybe a couple of strongboys externally - depending on the condition of the mortar. Get the beam in place and have some large folding wedges ready-cut to whack in straight away.

Ohh it's a window, I thought it was a door and those where massive bricks.
