Just bought a bare wood sofa-futon and would like to stain it first then put on a protective coating.
It's a very pale wood, probably a softwood of sorts and has nice grain with minimal knots.
The shop suggested leaving it untreated, but I think it will get ingrained dirt in places.
So I will stain it first with a light oak stain, then use a protection treatment.
What do folk suggest? Wax, OSMO or something else? Looking for a natural sheen finish.
Thanks.

You can get oak dye already mixed with danish oil , dye and oil in one go.

Im just treating some oak doors with Sadolin clear varnish. Maybe that might do the trick for you.
You can get it in a stain colour if you wish too
