Hello to all.

My Vailant Turbomax, 7 yrs old, is dripping badly on the prv pipe outside. Although the heating is on, the pressure isn't rising from the cold pressure, I suppose it's being lost with the leak. I topped it up to 1.4 bar, and its about the same with ch on. My questions are;

1) Is it likely to be dirt in the valve, or has it failed?

2) Should I try opening the valve to dislodge any dirt?

3) If I remove the valve, can it be dimantled to clean or service?

Thanks for any advice.

Had the same prob about 2 weeks ago with a Vaillant ectotec combi. The customer had over filled the system, when it got hot the prv passed then didn't reseat properly and continually dripped. Turned off isolation valves on flow and return pipes and drained via boiler drain off's. Managed to get it out take it apart and gave it a good clean. If prob persists it could be your expansion vessel failing.

Thanks for your reply. So I should be able to take the prv apart?

Also, can I check the exp vessel with the prv dripping? Presumably I need to check the ev's pressure with the boiler pressure at zero, but is it ok to do with a leaking prv?

What should the Turbo's ev pressure be?

When you have turned the boiler valves off and drained the boiler this is when you can test the pressure of the vessel it won't matter if the prv is passing. But before you do any of this turn the red top of the prv and shoot some water through, then turn all the way until it "clunks" a few times this may dislodge any dirt.

If all fails to help the the link below will talk you through testing the vessel. They are normally set about 1 bar. should be able to google instructions on boiler or ring for their technical.

Some prvs come apart and some dont, but most are in stock and dont cost too much.
