PTT2 thermostat control

(split off from) an old thread, but the info is relevant to my question.

I need a replacement for a PTT2 thermostat control, as described above. Similar problem to the OP - the control got smashed when people were rummaging in the boiler cupboard.
I can't find a replacement anywhere, but CAN get a PTT1 (controller only) which appears to be very similar. Questons:

Will the existing wiring for the PTT2 be suitable for the PTT1?
Will it work with the temperature sensor belonging to the PTT2?

All answers gratefully received.
