Hello,

Hope everyone is keeping well.

I pulled off a skirting board in my porch as it could do with replacing. When it came of I noticed there is a void/gap behind the left and side.

You can see the gap on the left hand side in the photos.

I’m a bit lost with what to do and how to securely attach the new skirting board. Any help would be much appreciated

The house is approx 1890 build with stone wall

The gap is where a softwood wedge would originally have been hammered-in between two bricks or lumps of stone then cut off square. The skirting would have been nailed to that. Whilst im no fan of expanding foam for skirting I have to concede that this is one case where it is well worth considering

If the wall is straight, why not use a bit of mortar in three equally spaced dabs leaving flush with the finished surface above, then when that’s set use some grab adhesive on your skirting and stick to those points? Much easier to remove in future if required!
