Why, when some people come on this forum seeking help - is it sometimes like pulling their teeth, trying to get enough information from them, to help solve their issue?

We have some people at work like that; they come asking for help but it's like they're having some internal competition to see how little info they have to divulge in order to get their problem solved ..

I've had a two paragraph set of teeth pull open questions responded to with 7 comma separated words

Point out that they should put at least the same effort into answering, as you did into asking; if they want free help they have to make themselves easy to help, because there are plenty of other people competing for your time and advice

If you don't know what you don't know, you don't easily give away the information others need.

Because you don't know what they need to know.

Lots of "average persons" on this forum.

The bigger problem I think, is cognitive laziness.

"It's a hatchback i think. It went funny where the electric light shop used to be. It was mostly all right up to then. Our Donny thinks a new one would be better. But i like Herbie.
How am i suppose to do shopping?
Somebody needs to fix it.
Should i call the police?
It needs reporting.
It's red."

"Oh i just thought, that was Tuesday."

It’s because they think they know what they are doing and thus don’t think it’s necessary to answer questions or post photos

Or they just want to posters to agree with them ……

The 'lol' part about it is, that if these folk were presenting their latest meal out, there would be pristine photos of the plate from all angles and a vivid description so adjectively rich, that you'd think you were eating their chicken-in-a-basket.

The lack of detail or poor grammar is frustrating, I agree. But folk are folk.
