This is probably a totally different problem to ours but...
We had a problem in our old house whereby the water fed to our pump from the header tank sometimes did not have anough pressure to allow the pump to activate when the shower was switched on - probably because (due to the very limited space) the pump and tank were sat side by side.
Our plumber installed a kick-start mechanism for the pump which was activated via a bell-switch and basically overrode the pressure sensor forcing the pump start. Once flowing it was fine.
