pump problem?

Having problems getting heating to two of the upstairs rads. I have tried venting them, but sometimes air comes out, then nothing. It's as if there is nothing pumping the water around the system. The downstairs rads get hot. The heating system is about 27 yrs old now. The pump also gets too hot to touch. Any help would be appreciated..

i am not a heating engineer but as you say

is the pump still the origonal? if so i would suggest you change it, the whole system may have a lot of sludge too
