Hi everyone, I've just been to look at a job where the system consists of 21 rads on microbore. The customer says that some of the rads are not heating up. The system has a 15/60 pump on it but the bloke reckons he used to have a 25/80 pump at one time. He has a worcester danesmoor wm 12/19 oil boiler. I think he has added rads and the boiler is undersized but will a 25/80 pump fit onto the exsisting pump valves and will it make a difference?

IMHO a 12/19 Boiler should not need a bigger pump than the 15/60 BUT if its got 21 Rads it sounds like the system has been extended by "Tagging-on" this could be where circulation problems are now occuring a bigger pump would be treating the symptoms and not the cause, but will certainly force more water around the system, but could cause pumping over and excessive noise at closest radiators and may not solve the problem. Sounds like the job needs a re-spec and sizing correctly - both boiler output and pipe sizing! ;)
