I am quite a novice on DIY and would apprciate any help. I have just moved into a house that has a push fluch toilet. There is a small crack on the side of the cistern that is leaking a small amount of water each day. I would like to drain all the water out of the cistern and attempt to seal the crack (I know its better just to replace it but I'm a little skint after the move). I figured a quick way to drain the water would be to just hold the float up after flushing. However, the drainage pipe is above the water level after flushing and so leaves some water in the cistern.

What would be the best way to drain all the water and what would be the best sealant to uses?

Thanks

As taking the cistern off and tipping the water out may be a bit more involved than you can handle. Stop the flow of water as you say or use the isolating valve if fitted, flush the loo to use as much water as possible then bail out the rest with a small container and finish with a sponge.

Leave for a day or so for the clay to dry out then smear with silicon, leave at least 12hrs before refilling.

If its your only loo use a bucket to flush the loo.
