I have just replaced some clay drainage pipe with 110mm PVC pipe. Most of the pipe will be buried in pea shingle but the last 2 metres will be the same height as the mot type 1 base level for the slabs. The PVC pipe will be bedded in pea shingle, but would it be ok to cover it in the mot type 1 for the last 2 metres where it crosses the patio?
Thanks

I'm doing a drainage run for a kitchen that is like this in part. What I always do is bed the pipe in concrete if it is quite shallow, since you cannot compact anything directly over the pipe.
Simon.

Thanks for the reply.

Just wanted to know whether it is OK to lay the concrete over the pipe and is this common practice?
The pipe is already bedded on top of a layer of pea shingle.

Concrete over pipes is ok.

Pipes beneath surfaces that are subject to vehicular traffic should be encased in concrete.
