Quandary about bathroom

Long story short, new shower room that was being created down stairs with our extension no longer needs to be a shower room, so my thoughts are make it a toilet room but use the space to put our washing machine in there instead of shower. Which will in turn save space else where.

Anyone got experience of having a washer in where there is a WC ? a friend of mine says its a bit weird and a toilet should really be partitioned off?

That's what I thought and after having a good trawl on google I've seen a few ideas to make it look nice..

And if you mess your undies up in some unspecified mishap you can pop them straight in the machine.

Just build a studwork housing for it. Did this for a friend who was selling in the near future and didn't want to create any oddities.

Aesthetically, you may want to have door to conceal the machine

I live in France. Almost everybody has their washing machine and dryer in the bathroom and think it is weird to bring dirty clothes into the kitchen where you cook food

Generally they are stacked with the dryer on top of the washing machine, sometimes with a pull out shelf between the two to put the washing basket on. They are rarely concealed behind a door but you could. There is usually some sort of storage for washing powder etc.

The only downside is that the bathroom is usually closer to the bedrooms than the kitchen so it is noisier, because most people run them at night on the cheap electricity tarrif, but in your case this isn't an issue.

We put a downstairs loo in our old house and did exactly the same. No issues at all.

It kept the noisy w/m out of the extension which was the open plan kitchen / lounger / diner

Did this and worked well.
If you have a tumble dryer consider putting in a hole though wall to vent its hot air.

Also suggest a shelf or worktop above washing machine or a pull out shelf between washing machine and tumble dryer. As makes sorting and folding clothes easier.
