Hi. I have 1930s semi. Want to remove old render as it looks quite poor.

I've had printed for k render and it's quite dear.

I think its best to go for cement render but read it cracks easily and to use lime render.

What would you go for?

K-rend around a fiver a bag! Much better than cement.

Was quoted 9-10 per bag. Need 65. Then you have base coat. So will take 9-10 days labour costing around £3k.

Cement probably work out half cost.

Jewson a fiver a bag, especially if you are bulk buying, shop around.
The bulk of the cost is in Labour and scaffold.

As an aside, if the existing render is solid it does not need to be hacked off unless overcoating interferes with window, door reveals etc.

You can use cement as a base coat then k-rend finish..

Cheers.

Can you tell me if I use sand and cement and do the gable end wall part that has just been built for dormer can I do the remainder after 3-4 weeks once the old render is removed without it looking patchy?

All will be painted at a later date.

Thanks

Base coat yes! Top coat has to be hit down in 1 go to be seamless.

I agree. I wouldn't want to see a line either.

I've been told that a stop bead can be used at bottom. And when rendered later it can still blend in once painted. Is this right?

Yes, expansion, stop beads can be used to split large areas into manageable hits.
would look odd in a small gable though.

Hi. I've decided to get all of it rendered as per your advice. I'm removing old render with sds.

Would I have to go back to brick? As the base coat is on really well. The top pebble dashing comes off easily enough.

Thanks

Take the loose stuff off, the contractors will make up the difference with the scratch coat.
Does more damage than good tearing stuff off that is solid.

Right the render is finally off. Pain in backside.

I had somebody come to have a look. For sand and cement recommended 10mm beads. Is this right? Seems a bit small.

You want sharp lines, going beyond/ over the bead would look terrible.
