The house we've just moved into has thermostatic radiator valves throughout. More than half of these are fitted to the inlet end of the radiator. Please reasure me that this is wrong. I assume that the valves work by regulating the flow through the radiator so as to maintain an outlet temperature controlled by the valve's setting. Presumably the inlet temperature is fixed by the boiler temperature and hence these valves close as soon as there has been enough flow to allow boiler temperature water to reach the valve. Fortunately, fully open seems to mean just that so at least I have an on / off control.
I don't see an easy way of fixing this without draining the system. Is that right?
