Hi all

I could really do with some advise please.
I've just moved into a property with these kinds of radiators (pic attached)
Both sides of the radiator has the same fittings. It doesn't seem to matter if I turn it clockwise or anticlockwise the rad is hot!
Any suggestions
Many thanks!

What is the rest of your system like, do you have thermostatic radiator valves on the other radiators. What sort of boiler do you have. Is the problem radiator in the same room as the room thermostat if you have one on the wall.

The old cast iron radiator was designed for non modulating boilers, so they stay hot between times when the boiler fires, the idea is you never let the home cool, the modern gas boiler however modulates (turns down) and heats up each room individually controlled by a TRV and lock shield valve, and can even link the TRV heads to a hub, so if any room is cool it can start the boiler.

However, some people have fitted cast iron radiators because they look nice, personally think they look hideous, but each to their own.

It does seem your taps are faulty, the radiator should turn off, but before paying out for repairs, you need to consider what you want 5 years down the line, so you don't pay out good money for something you will latter dump.

So start with existing boiler type, and controls, and then decide if adding a TRV or whole new radiator is the way to go.

Turning either valve fully clockwise should prevent the radiator heating. It is not instant ,rad should cool over a period of time .
If it doesn't the valves are not functioning.
