Radiator replacement.

Hi,
I've changed a few radiators before but they have had a thermostat valve one end and just a screw down valve the other end.
I need to now change another but one end just has a white plastic cap but once taken off there is a brass looking part.
Am I correct in just turning this brass item until it stops to shut the valve off whilst I remove the radiator.
