hi i was going to fit a new rad but couldnt find one the same size the closest it could get was about 30mm wider dont want to move the pipes so someone told me you can get extendable tails is this right and how do they work :rolleyes:

Extendable tails make up the difference when a new radiator is shorter than the one it is replacing, you have the opposite problem, so it sounds like you may have to bite the bullet, and rearrange the pipework. Many don't like the telescopic variety of extension tail, finding the 'O' ring seals prone to leaks, but that is a moot point, as they will not do the job in your case.

It is sometimes possible to shift the pipes that rise from under a wooden floor sideways a bit without putting undue strain on them by extending the holes they run through into slots.

Changing the valves might gain or lose a few millimetres difference, bit that's about as much hassle as altering the pipework anyway.

Have you checked out Imperial sized radiators as well as the more common metric sizes for an exact replacement?
