Radiators in timber boxing?

If you are going to surround a heat emitter in boxing, you will probably wish to leave the TRV flat out anyway, so unless you expect the rad to be controlled the same as other rads without boxing, just leave it on full setting.

Pointless boxing in a radiator, cos it won`t radiate any heat will it ? that`s why it`s called a radiator......cos it radiates heat.. it will make the boxing in nice and warm though... the mice will be well impressed........
the radiator thermostatic valve will require a remote sensor in order to work.

Well actually a radiator is in fact incorrectly named as it doesn't so much radiate heat but relies on convection.
from memory when i was at college a long time ago isn't it roughly 20% radiation & 80% convection.
but in the winter we all wanted to sit next to the rads & dose off during lectures.
Most boxing cuts heat output by at least 50%.
TRVs usually work pretty well inside the boxed section because they have a good slot along the base and that lets the TRV sense the inlet air which has come from floor level.
The TRV setting will probably need to about a 1/2 a setting higher when in the boxing.
Its rarely done but they are safely protected if they are fitted on their side so they better sense the outside air.

Yes, sounds about right. A true radiator would something like an old electric heater that has a reflector in it.
I agree with Bamber. Why not just remove the rad as the room will be as warm when you box it in,
I boxed all my downstais rads in, but the living room just would not get warm enough so I had to remove that one. (and it was the only one specifically made to measure).
I have t/stat valves on all the others & I just turned them up a bit more, no problems now.
I even have 2 rads in one room BOTH with there own t/stat, you get quicky warm up & the temp is then maintained.

It's a horribly inefficient way of doing things, boxing in your rads will cost you a huge amount in heating bills. Having said that, if you don't mind throwing money around then you could always invest in these, which will deal with the problem of having the TRV inside the boxing by moving the sensor outside it http://www.heatingcontrolsonline.co.uk/danfoss-randall-ra2000-remote-adjuster-p-146.html
