I have a Baxi Barcelona (hubby says it a condensing one - not sure though  !) For the past few days the water has been piping hot without actually having been switched on (the water/ch are supposed to work independently of each other and they are switched on/off manually) so i am assuming that the radiators which have been in use a lot lately have somehow managed to heat the water, can anybody please help as i do not understand how this can be

You have a valve called a motorised valve, or sometimes diverter valve which routes water from the boiler to the hot water, or to the radiators. It is probably stuck in the middle so water goes both places

I have figured out my boiler is a Baxi 100HE, do you know how this diverter would only now be sending water elsewhere this has never happened before and i have had my boiler approx. 3 years, also i have now noticed if i switch on hw or ch there is a funny sound in the pipes going out above the boiler (fizzy water type sound  ) :?:

There are gas experts about for the boiler info. The fizzy water is air in the water, or going through a restriction. The boiler and valve may have been ok, but everything mechanical is working its way to its next breakdown. A bit like cars.

In this valve a motor opens it to route water one way, or releases it to send it the other way. When it's worn or stuck water goes both ways. It's a fact of life that it might have been ok once, but it isn't now.

thank you oilman, i will get the valve issue looked at by an expert but in the meantime as it's the weekend can you offer any advice on how to get the air out and is it safe to have my heating on whilst the air is there because it's really cold here at the moment :(

Bleed air from radiators, and bleed air from pump. There's a big screw on the back of the pump. I assume you have a normal hot water tank.

It may be the valve is stuck. there is a lever on the pump which can be moved and locked in the open position, you should then have heating, unless it's totally broke. Or you have a blockage.

Thanks Oilman :!: Hubby gonna try it later, he suspects air, he removed a radiator a few months back for decorating purposes and thinks that may have something to do with it but we'll see ;)
