Radio 2 CFL and dimming?

My daughter who listens to Radio 2 has asked me about fitting dimmers to compact florescent lamps. She tells me how some presenter had said how he has dimmer switch and CFL’s as saving more power.
As far as I was aware you can get dimmable CFL’s but these don’t use dimming switches and operate by flicking the light switch off and on quickly.
Are there also CFL’s that work on a dimming switch or was the presenter wrong in what he said?

Hi ericmark, there are quite a few about that work on stadard dimmers, i understand what your saying about the flicker rate on some lamps being altered to dim them, these ones i've shown above are ok.
