Hi,

We have a kitchen renovation project going on at the moment, as a part of the job we need to raise the current concrete floor by about 180mm to match with the rest of floor level on the ground floor.

Our builder originally quoted for timber joists with insulation but he now wants to put insulation then screet on top, our concern is that screed seems to have a long wait until it is dry enough before we can finishing off with laminate flooring, and we really need to get the kitchen floor raised and new kitchen fitted ASAP. (The builder said it will only take a couple of days to dry, but from our search it would be at least 1week or 2 and we really have go that time to wait.)

Please advise which would be the best option for us, timber joists or screed?

Thank you !!!!

Hi, I really don't have much knowledge of the building world, when you say floating floor, do you mean adding timber joists over screed, then chipboard then finish off with laminate?

I think our builder doesn't want to use timber joists with insulation, as it takes him longer to get it level, that's why he is suggesting to use insulation then screed on top, or screed first to make existing concrete floor level, then insulation and chipboard on top. Either way we are worrying about the drying time needed for the screed.

Is jablite a better insulation than kingspan?
