When I buy a replacement Tuit, I want to move some outlets in my workroom, I don't like chocs so would like to crimp and heatshrink. I will probably crimp a dozen joints and then never do it again.

I see ratchet crimpers are in the region of £20, I had a look at the HSS site but they aren't offered, is there likely to be anywhere I can hire them that would offer much of a saving on buying some?

At £20 they're probably not worth anyone hiring out. Why not just buy one?

I'm very mean  and already have a garageful of stuff I never use.

perhaps you could buy a set and YOU could rent them out

Good idea

TOOLS FOR HIRE

Alfa Romeo DOHC valve compressor
Ariel Arrow Clutch retaining tool
Set BSP Taps and dies (3/4" to 2 1/2")
Big iron ratcheted thing to suit
Sailmakers Circular Needles
Lorrimer's Punches
Bronze and Lead mallets
Planishing hammers
Gear pullers (various)
Chain lube gadget
Floorboard lifter
Completely useless cordless angle grinder
Suzuki Oil filter socket

...many more

Sounds like you've got a similar, but different, set of "hire or loan" tools to me

instead of hording them why dont you put them on ebay? ( i am being serious) if you dont use them why keep it. One mans junk is another mans rubbish

You can pick up a set of cheap ratchet crimps for less than £10 John.
Seeing as you will barely use them im sure they would be adequate!

i dont think its the mony he was worried about, (he never complained about £20) its what to do with them after he has used them.

 JohnD I have just started a rental shop, i hire ratchet crimpers.

£20 deposit
rental £2 / day
Postage packaging and insurance £30
Minimum rental period 5 days

Mmmm  Not that far from Sussex :?: and I like looking @ old tools  and I`ve got the ratchet ........but it`s Auto size.prob. the same tho`

Why not buy some from screwfix, do the job and send them back as an 'item ordered in error'!

Note: Don't do this

Gave up and bought a CK pair, was a bit anxious about the cheaper makes as I'm very clumsy and often break things; they look all right, maybe I'll put them on Fleabay when I've finished.

p.s. if I use the insulated butt crimps, and the join is inside an enclosure, I assume I don't need to sleeve or sheath them. Will use old colours to match existing. Any other tips?

Keep a spare fan belt in the boot of your car, just in case it breaks when you can't buy one.
