My problem continues -- Rcb tripping out during night time.

Some nice advice from johnd last Wednesday 23rd solved some of it.

Tripping out at night suggests fridge/freezer or timer ( central heating)

Both now checked, fridge/freezer NFF.

Central heating timer/programmer replaced as it was 9 years old.

Continuing, but now if we switch off the microwave at night no trip.

Why would this be? Microwave was not effected previously, during

checks on FF and Central heating.

It is in use regularly during each evening, but is now possible cause

of trip during night time ( or is that just a coincidence )

Totally baffled, as a non professional electrician, by all of this.

Can someone please help me.

the total trip current will be about 30mA

it is possible that rather than one fault of >30mA you have ten faults of about 3mA each, or three of about 10mA each. Fault current varies a bit over time.

Accumulation of multiple small faults is more difficult to track down but you might detect particular circuits or appiances that, when disconnected, reduce trips.

Thanks a lot johnd !!!

RCB is an 80 amp, fitted last August.

If we had 10 faults on small appliances, how could we identify those.

Why night time ??

A local electrician has offered to carry out a full check, maybe we

will have to go that route. Any suggestions ??

Thanks again

If you're getting an electrician in, ask him to bring a PAT tester so that (as well as looking for circuit faults) he can test your appliances for earth leakage.
