Hi

I am just working out if I can buy some underfloor heating - it says it needs tobe connected to an RCD.

I assume that this means my Consumer Unit needs to have an RCD in it?

The CU is a Hager - given it doesnt give any info I can't tell if this is an RCD or not - here is a picture!

cheers

The item on the left hand side looks like an RCD, what does the writing say on it (bit blurred)? The MK MCB shouldn't be in there.

Hager

63A
50-60hz

switch points to: I/ON
there is also a smaller button to the left saying 'test'.

!

Can you see a trip rating, often written as I/\n? Could be 0.03A, 30mA etc?
Having one main RCD isn't considered good practice as if it trips you lose power to the whole installasion.

What rating of RCD does the underfloor heating ask for? The RCD you have appears to be a 100mA device.

it needs to go through a 13amp fuse spur and collects power of 2800 watts - there will be two of them - one on each indivdual ring main.

Underfloor heating requires a 30mA RCD. Yours in 100mA.

For a simple solution, fit an RCD-Fused Connection Unit rather than a standard Fused Connection Unit.

Clicky

thats fine - I'm not doing it I just wanted to know if I could buy it!
