Re-fix Blum hinge to door

Hi
Anyone know a simple way of securely re-fixing a blum hinge to a heavy mirrored cabinet door?
The door came off so the screw holes need repair. Maybe a bracket too?

You need a DOOR REPAIR PLATE

A few pounds a pair on Ebay

(The one you want has the big round hole. Nor the same as a HINGE REPAIR PLATE.)

As you say the doors are heavy, this would be a good time to fit a complete set of door plates and hinge plates to reinforce them all before another breaks.

If funds permit, Blum hinges with soft close and click on/off action are very good.

Or maybe wide-opening hinges would suit you.

Refit hinge in new holes drilled above or below existing, adding additional might help if the current failed due to weight.

Do the holes need to be repaired to clamp the plate in, or does the plate take the place of the holes so the screws are fixed to the plate? Wouldnt it be better to bolt them, as the door is heavy?

Fill the holes with glued in bits of matchstick. Then screw back into the filled holes.

I was thinking maybe drilling 1/2 way through the door to make space for he bolt inside the door, and bolting the bracket to the hinge before screwing the bracket to the door.

There is no point in repairing the existing holes - the repair plates use more screws than the original hinges, and they are in different places

As @foxhole says, how on earth do you get a bolt through a door with a mirror on the outside (assuming the mirror glass is bonded on)? IMHO such a repair would look absolutely terrible assuming you could do it! Remember - you only have 18mm of MDF to play with and MDF isn't that strong

yes, but his price seems high

I use euroscrews, which are thicker and I think better in chipboard, if they will fit through the plate you get. You must have a pilot hole.

Just to clarify - I didn't mean bolting through the entire door/mirror - which would look awful - just the bracket to the hinge.
Otherwise what fixes the hinge to the bracket securely? Especially as the screw holes in the MDF are buggered....

With a door repair plate you can get a fix onto the door with between 4 and 8 screws, as opposed to the original two screws, thus spreading the load. The Hinge is screwed to the repair plate - there is no need to mess around with bolts, nits or anything else (see photos above). The only precaution you need to take is place the mirror face onto an old cushion or offcut of rolled up carpet foam or the like when working on the door to prevent damage.
