Re-grouting shower

Hi guys,

Just wondering if you guys could help. As above I'm having to re-grout my shower. Moved in last year and this shower seems to have been previously the victim of a cowboy.

Long story short I had a leak coming from the plug hole in the bottom of the shower due to some idiot not screwing in the plug hole properly. Whilst fixing this I noticed another leak coming from the walk. I hadn't really bothered checking the grout but low and behold it was in a shocking state. Basically its crumbling and had been "re-sealed" with silicon.

Question: Do I need to remove all the grout as there are good bits mainly at head height? And if I dont how will the new grout seal ok with the old good grout?

Ok never mind job just got a lot worse. Scrapping the grout out and now tiles are coming with it. The plaster board is very very damp though not crumbling.

Couple more questions.

Do I need to remove the plasterboard? Or let it dry?

The paper covering the plasterboard has come away with the tile. Do I need to prepare this plasterboard before re-tiling?

Take the lot out and redo it properly with Tile Backerboard or plasterboard and tanking, have a look through the Tiling sticky and search the forum all the answers are there

An update only the bottom ones have come off the rest are fine. The plasterboard is damp but not crumbling. Do I still de-tile everything? Or wait for the plasterboard to dry out water proof it and re-tile that bit?

I'm only asking because I can't afford new tiles etc etc.

grout is not waterproof and water will soak through onto your plasterboard

It is green plaster board though the green bit came off with the tiles. I thought there might be something I could treat the plasterboard with to waterproof it before re-tiling.

yes its called tanking mate a kit is quite expensive though think i pay about £50 for a bal tanking kit

If its been leaking for some time....the whole wall/walls will be kaput...water travels up walls as well.....

At least take off the tiles to about 1m above the floor/bath area and see how the plasterboard is/looks.....

Post some pics if you can,you maybe able to patch in with a backer board and then re-tile...but by the sounds off it,it sounds like a strip and redo...
