Re painting over external wood

The timber frame on my conservatory needs repainting and im considering using sadolin superdec or extra durable.

Im not sure what the existing paint is but will i need to strip back to bare wood before painting or will a good rub down and prep on any flaky areas be sufficient?

Will i need to prime the surface before hand aswell?
Ive read that superdec is self priming which sounds decent, also read quite a few threads about it blistering so it may not be the product for me.

I'll obviously take make sure all the damaged areas will be repaired or replaced before hand.

A complete sand back will ensure an even colour.

The extra durable does not require a primer but they do recommend using their wood preservative first. TBH I have no reason to believe that their own wood preservative is any better than anyone elses'. That said, Dulux recommend that you wait at least three days before painting Weathershield over their Cuprinol preservative.

Sadolins is good stuff, however the clear coating doesn't have sufficient UV blockers to prevent wood from being bleached by sun light. In your case you are going for a dark colour, so that won't be a problem.
