where roof tiles meet a vertical wall or dormer cheek then soakers will need to be used. these will be fitted to each tile individually as they are laid.
What my original question was when first line of slates is laid from bottom of roof which overlaps in gutter should they not have soakers as first row and then first line should start on them.If any water escapes from joints of first line it can run dowen the soakers and into gutter. If sokers are not their then any gap in between first line of slates means water has to run directly on felt underneath and into gutter.I hope you can understand my point.
The soakers you are refurring to, are slates on there side, ( might be diff in new builds ) which over hand into the cutter, and the start of slate row ( first ) over-lap into the gutter at the same depth of the soaker. So the slate on it's side does a job as a slate lets say 1/2 way up a slate roof, water will drip between two slates onto the slate on it's side ( soaker ) then into the gutter. I hope it makes sence.
