a thought struck me, (dangerous, as my wife would say).

If you have a garage that consists of lights and a few sockets which all work and test out ok but, is wired in old colours and old stranded wire, can you simply change the old, stranded wire for modern single strand and colours, without the need to notify anyone?

Yes, you could - but why on earth would you want to do that (assuming it is PVC cable)?

Kind Regards, John

Just one of those random thoughts that can pop into your head when you read something.

I'm of the school of thought, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I think the question is like...
Let your mum know that if your aunt had bxxxs, she'd be your uncle, but she doesn't, so she's not. So don't tell your mum because there is no news.
Ha

Leave wiring alone. Pointless swapping.

Just to make it clear.
I'm not changing anything. It was just a random thought that popped into my head when reading other posts.
