The current gas fire is a Marseille that is in excess of 20 years old.
It's packed up. It had a sliding gas knob that also ignited the flame
So I would replace it with a same sized unit, I remember that when the fireplace was built, there was a cock-up and the guy had to widen the hole to accommodate the fire.
There is a gas tap on the side of the chimney from a previous 1980's fire that needed a match and nerves of steel.
any idea what a (South East) gas fitter would charge to remove & replace the fire?
I'd guess it was a day's work?
thanks
