I have tried to replace two ceiling rose connected pendents with two recessed mains downlighter's (DL1, DL2). The roses were controlled by two way switches at either end of a corridor and an additional bathroom light loop connected to one rose. I have discarded roses for terminal blocks in the ceiling void.

DL1 recess is now fed by 2 cables (twin core black/red + earth wire). DL2 recess is now fed by 4 cables (twin core black/red + earth wire). No black cables were marked red to indicate line/feed, but through a bit of trial and error (tripping FCB) I have isolated what I think is the black (line?) to DL2. I connected all remaining 3 blacks together and all 4 four lives together. All earths connect together to a terminal block. The actual DL2 wires are connected to single black (line) and other 3 blacks.
At DL1 recess I connected 2x red together and 2x black and wired two leads DL1 brown to red, blue to black. Circuit tripped. Tried separate black wires, and brown to red, blue to black with a black spare. DL2 works alone but now of course DL1 does not. Bathroom switch and loop off DL2 is fine.

Is the problem with connections at DL2 OR DL1 ? Can someone point me in the right direction ?

You mentioned blue, and yet said both DL1 and 2 are fed from 2Core+E (Black and Red typically)

Are there 3 core + E wires invloved, and if so, where are they?

You should have one from each switch, hopefully going to one of the ceiling roses, plus two twin+E cables (the lighting cirucit) AND a 3rd twin and each, which will be the link between the two lights.
