Can you install recessed SELV lighting into your home in a non special location without a minor works cert or building regs implications?

also

Can you install SELV recessed lighting into your bathroom without a minor works cert or building regs implications if you use CE marked light fittings?

trawled the internet but need someone to clarify part p on this recessed lighting issue. Thanks guys!!

NO..
SELV lighting sets that are not pre-assembled are notifiable.. they are classed as a "special installation".

So as long as you use preassembled CE marked recessed lighting they can be installed any room with no regs certs required??

If you are adding them in a kitchen or special location then they are notifiable.

Basically absolutely everything is notifiable, unless it matches one of the exceptions in Schedule 2B. So take your proposed work, read through Schedule 2B, and if you get to the end without finding a match then it's notifiable.

recessed lighting can never be pre-assembled, they don't come with cables with plugs on them, you have to wire them together..

( this is where someone will undoubtedly point out that you can get pre-wired downlights with a click rose on the end of a 3M flex for use in suspended ceilings.. or something similar.. )

again.. NO..
SELV lighting is classed as a special installation unless it is a pre-assembled kit..
if it isn't built into a fitting such as a 3 spot bar or if it doesn't come with leads and lights that simply plug together then it's notifiable WHEREVER you install it..
